Again thanks to all who participated as speakers, vendors, volunteers, organizers, and by attending. Thanks to all who donated their time, services, or materials in anyway! Thanks to all who helped to spread the word, and to all who supported and encouraged us along the way! Please be sure to let others know of your experience at the conference. Make sure to let our vendors know that you were pleased with the outcome, and that you hope to see them there again next year. Our Lady of Good Success Book from Father Isaac's Sermon

We have had many requests to find out the name of the book used by Fr. Isaac Mary Relyea in his sermon at the Mass preceding the homeschool conference. To all who are interested, I believe the first book listed below is the book that Fr. Isaac read from during his sermon at the Mass. The book which follows is actually a follow up to that book. The next 2 books are about the Life of Mother Mariana, which Father also spoke of during his sermon. I have an email in to Fr. Isaac to verify that the book listed below is the correct one, but I am fairly certain it is. If it turns out that I have sent out the wrong information, I will correct it once I hear back from him.

St. Christopher’s in Radcliff to celebrate Latin Mass

St. Christopher’s in Radcliff to celebrate Latin Mass

A first since 1969 and Vatican II

By BECCA OWSLEY

bowsley@thenewsenterprise.com

An event that hasn’t happened in Hardin County for many years will take place 8 a.m. Saturday at St. Christopher Catholic Church located at 1225 S. Wilson Road in Radcliff.

A Tridentine Latin Mass, or the Extraordinary Form, will kick off the Kentucky Catholic Home School Conference at St. Christopher but it is open to the public and not strictly for conference attendees.

This Mass was celebrated by the Catholic Church for almost 1,500 years, event organizer Julie Siscoe said.

Pope Paul VI introduced a Mass after the Second Vatican Council in 1969 that replaced the Latin Mass. Siscoe said the Tridentine Mass was restricted by many Bishops because they thought it had been banned. In July of 2007 Pope Benedict XVI issued a Motu Proprio, Summorum Pontificum that declared the Mass had never been banned and lifted the restrictions.

The Mass will be the first public Tridentine Mass celebrated at St. Christopher or in Hardin County since the release of the Summorum Pontificum in 2007, Siscoe said. From her research she concluded that there hasn’t been one celebrated in the county since 1969.

While the Mass at St. Christopher is a one time event, the only regular celebrations of Latin Mass in the diocese are at St. Martin of Tours in Louisville, Our Lady of the Caves in Horse Cave and St. Helen Catholic Church in Glasgow, Siscoe said.

Siscoe and her husband did not grow up in the Catholic faith and were not familiar with the Latin Mass. They now drive about an hour every Sunday and most Mondays to attend Mass at Our Lady of the Caves for that experience. She expects many will drive much farther to celebrate Saturday’s Mass.

The Rev. Dennis Cousens at St. Christopher explained the Mass to parishioners in a church bulletin.

The Mass is celebrated in Latin according to the rubrics for the Mass prior to the renewal of the Second Vatican Council.

It is celebrated ad orientem, which he explained means towards the east. The priest and the congregation all face the same direction, usually towards the east or the symbolic east, in expectation that Christ will return from the east.

At the Mass, Cousens explained women traditionally wear dresses and a covering on their head, Holy Communion is received on the tongue only in a kneeling position and strict silence is observed both before and after the Mass.

The Rev. Isaac Mary Relyea, of the Madison, Wis., diocese will celebrate the Mass and serve as keynote speaker for the home- school conference.

For more information on the Tridentine Mass go to www.thepaulusinstitute.org/press-release.htm.

For more information on the conference go to www.kycatholichomeschooling.org.

Becca Owsley can be reached at (270) 505-1741.

You Can Still Come!

If you have not mailed in your registration yet, you can still come to the conference! Mail it in if you believe it will get to us by Friday. If not, bring it to the door! You can also purchase a KofC lunch at the door. If your going to register at the door, though, please drop us a note to kycathhsing@yahoo.com and annotate how many lunches you will be purchasing. It will help us out in the planning! Thanks! We're looking forward to seeing you!

Reminder: Conference Registration

We are 9 days away from the conference! This is a reminder to get those registrations in. It is not too late to send in your registrations. Although registrations will be accepted at the door, advance registrations are strongly encouraged and appreciated.

We would also like to take this time to remind everyone that we want this conference to be available to all who wish to attend. However, we still ask that you complete and submit a registration form. Please be sure to make a note indicating that you need the registration fee waived. This will be operated on the 'honor' system.

About Father Isaac Mary Relyea

Reminiscent of St. Augustine, Father Isaac Mary Relyea had taken a dark road in life. However, he benefitted from the continual prayerful intercession of a devout mother who loved him enough to never give up on him. The results were that he had a dramatic conversion which brought him back to the church and into the priesthood.

Today, Father Relyea is a Franciscan and has established a reputation as a strong-speaking mission priest, having presented to crowds as large as 7,000. Citing great shepherds of the church such as St. Alphonsus Liguori and St. Louis de Montfort, Father Relyea is a committed confessor, typically spending up to 12 hours a day in the confessional during his missions. Well-versed in St. Liguori's Moral Theology, and his other great pastoral work Guide for Confessors, Father Relyea seeks to inform the consciences of those whom God graces to hear the fullness of the Gospel message, so that they might effectively utilize the sacraments toward the cleansing of their souls.

Father Relyea's devotion to preaching the Four Last Things--Death, Judgment, Heaven, and Hell--and his explanation of the Particular and General Judgment--have led thousands of souls to a higher degree of grace and preparation.

Father Relyea regularly offers the Tridentine Latin Mass, and will be doing so at our June 5th conference. His talk will be on the responsibilities of Catholic parents with regards to the eventual vocations of their children.

Father Relyea currently resides in the diocese of Madison, Wisconsin.

Here are some links to a few of his talks:

7/30/06 - "The Parish Mission": Father Isaac Mary Relyea - Part 2 of 4

2007 Lenten Mission: The Four Last Things Preached by Father Isaac Mary Relyea

Lighthouse Media also carries a CD of his conversion story:

Power of a Mother's Prayers - Fr. Isaac Mary Relyea

'Fr. Isaac Relyea shares the amazing story of his mother's persistence in prayer for his conversion, Divine protection, supernatural grace, and the Lord's incredible mercy. He heard the call to the priesthood at an early age but was pulled away by the enticements of the world, had a change of heart, and became consumed with sinful pleasures. This story shows a striking similarity to the story of St. Augustine and his mother, St. Monica. '

St. Joseph Communications has a conversion title, too. I do not know if it is the same as the one above:

The Conversion of Father Isaac Relyea

Another Fr. Isaac title from St. Joseph Communications is:

The Final Journey: The Truth About The Four Last Things

I am not sure if you can get it from St. Joseph's anymore, but I have found it online with a number of Catholic bookstores. Aquinas and More has it for $23.95. Others are selling it for more.

For those in the California area, Father Isaac is actually scheduled to speak at another conference on June 12, 2010 with Jesse Romero and Terry Barber (the founder of Lighthouse Media/St. Joseph Communications) at the Be the Man God Calls You to Be Men's Conference.

Kentucky Homeschooling Conference to Begin with Traditional Latin Mass

Kentucky Homeschooling Conference to Begin with Traditional Latin Mass

On Saturday, June 5, 2010, at 8:00 am, Fr. Isaac Mary Relyea, a priest of the diocese of Madison, Wisconsin, will celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass to start the Kentucky Catholic Homeschooling Conference. Father will then act as the keynote speaker for the Conference.

The Mass will be the first public Traditional Mass at St. Christopher Parish, and in Hardin County, since the release of Pope Benedict XVI’s Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum in July 2007. It appears that this may also be the first public Traditional Mass in Hardin County in over 40 years. The Mass is a public Mass and all are welcome to attend. It is not necessary to be a homeschooler, or to register for the conference, to attend the Mass.

The First Annual Kentucky Catholic Homeschooling Conference is being organized by the St. Benedict Homechool Association (SBHA) in Hardin County. Catholic homeschooling conferences are necessary for the growth of the Catholic Homeschooling Movement. Many parents wonder what homeschooling is and whether is a suitable option for their family. Conferences allow parents to explore and answer these questions, as well as to research the many curricula and programs available. Speakers provide information on how homeschooling works and why it is important, while the vendors provide curricula and other materials.

Many of the largest Catholic homeschooling curriculum programs are expected to be present, including Seton Home Study, Kolbe Academy, Our Lady of the Rosary, and Catholic Schools K-12 Virtual. Many other vendors will also be present, including college representatives from several Catholic colleges. Many Catholic companies have also donated free items to be given away as door prizes, and WLCR 1040 in Louisville has provided free advertisement to help publicize the event.

In addition, Jim Morlino of Navis Pictures has agreed to send a copy of his newly completed film, St. Bernadette of Lourdes, to be reviewed by the teens who attend the conference. This is an appropriate contribution because this movie was made using 166 homeschoolers.

In organizing this new conference, SBHA hopes to start an annual event that can eventually be managed and maintained with the assistance of the Catholic homeschooling leaders and support groups throughout Kentucky as a joint venture. This conference is open to all homeschooling families, those considering homeschooling, or friends and family members of homeschoolers throughout Kentucky. Those outside of Kentucky are also welcome to attend. Please see the conference website for cost and details.

State Catholic homeschool conference to be held in Radcliff

State Catholic homeschool conference to be held in Radcliff

By KELLY R. CANTRALL

kcantrall@thenewsenterprise.com

A local Catholic homeschool conference will be the first of its kind in Kentucky.

St. Benedict’s Homeschool Association in Hardin County is co-sponsoring the first Catholic
Homeschool Conference in Kentucky. It begins at 8 a.m. June 5 at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Radcliff.

The cost is $25 for individuals, $30 for couples, and an additional $7 to bring a teenager is.

The idea for the conference came from Anne Barrientos, a member of the homeschool association, and she enlisted member Julie Siscoe to help, Siscoe said. They had traveled out of state to other conferences, and wished for a local one.

“We need one here in our state too,” she said.

The conference will feature vendors of curricula and programs for homeschooling families to use, as well as speakers, including keynote speaker the Rev. Isaac Mary Relyea. Relyea is a Franciscan from Madison, Wis., who travels as a mission priest. Other speakers will discuss topics such as family finances, family life balance and how to choose a homeschool curriculum.

Siscoe said the conference is for families who are contemplating homeschooling their children, and those who currently are homeschooling and are looking for resources and support.

Siscoe and Barrientos hope for the conference to become an annual event, she said. Siscoe said she hopes it will encourage families to homeschool or to continue with it.

“It takes a lot sometimes,” Siscoe said, so families need support like this.

The conference will begin with a Tridentine Latin Mass, which is open to anyone, not just those attending the conference.

Registration forms can be found at www.kycatholichomeschooling.org/registration_form-Final.pdf, or by mail at SBHA, Kentucky Catholic Homeschooling, P.O. Box 86, Rineyville, Ky. 40162.

Kelly R. Cantrall can be reached at (270) 505-1747.

Kentucky Catholic Homeschool Conference - Fr. Isaac Mary Relyea

Saturday, June 5, 2010 -

Fr. Isaac Mary Relyea will be visiting St. Christopher Catholic Church in Radcliff, Ky to say the Traditional Latin High Mass for the KY Catholic Homeschooling Conference. The Mass will begin at 8 am. The Rosary and Confessions will precede the Mass. All are invited to attend the Mass. You do not have to be a homeschooler, or attend the conference, to attend the Mass.

Fr. Isaac Mary Relyea will also be our keynote speaker for the conference. Note: Fr. Shannon Collins was originally scheduled to celebrate the Mass and speak but something unexpected came up and he had to cancel. Fr. Isaac Relyea graciously agreed to be our replacement. Please spread the word. We are hoping for a good show of support for the conference, the Mass, and Fr. Isaac Mary Relyea.

Father Relyea egularly offers the Tridentine Latin Mass, and will be doing so at our June 5th conference. His talk will be on the responsibilities of Catholic parents with regards to the eventual vocations of their children.

Father Relyea currently resides in the diocese of Madison, Wisconsin.
